The Eagles And The Lack Of Large Numbers
Ah, the world is more random than we all like to believe...and
sometimes it moves in our favor, which is always nice. The Eagles late-season and playoff
run may seem pretty improbable - but I don't think it's
nearly as improbable as many believe. The fact is that football is not
played in a series format, so with such a small number of games, the
so-called "improbable" occurs relatively often. The lack of a large number of games per season, and especially in the
playoffs, means that even when one team is materially better than another - the
certainty that the better team will win is pretty low.
If you take this logic further - the Titans weren't as good as they seemed all year, the Lions weren't as bad as history will judge them, and unfortunately the Cardinals have almost as good a shot to win this game on Sunday as the Eagles do.
