Karaoke can be a lot of fun to do oneself - it's a little like singing in the shower with better equipment. On the other hand, it is one of the most unbearable things to listen to others do. This is the unfortunate dichotomy of Karaoke. I can't think of anything else that has this unique quality. Playing video games is the closest thing that comes to mind - but watching others play video games doesn't make me want to cut my ears off, so I don't think it's a fair comparison.
