Tim Russert Dies

You don't have to come to this blog to get this news, but I'd feel remiss if I didn't post this. I have to say, I'm more upset than I thought I'd be. I've never met Tim Russert personally, but he was a pretty likable guy on TV. Sort of like the opposite of Bill O'Reilly.

I show Meet the Press to my 12th grade US Government class every monday, and I will continue without Mr. Russert's presence. However, though 18-year-olds know everything about politics, they grew to appreciate Tim's dedication to the importance of journalistic etiquette and professionalism. I ran into one of my students on Friday, and I said, "Hey J.D., did you know the guy from Meet the Press passed away?" His response was, "Tim Russert?" It caught me off guard that J.D. knew his name, because it seemed like J.D. was never locked in when Meet the Press was on. He followed with, "Tim Russert was the best part of that show." To me, that says it all.
