People Who Annoy Me - Part 3
The Chronic Small-Talker:
You cannot walk around life without drumming up meaningless conversation wherever you go. You enjoy talking about the weather and traffic. You are especially excited when there is unseasonably hot or cold weather. You say inane things like, "Do you think this weather will last?" In the words of Jerry Seinfeld, "No. I'm pretty sure it won't last. This is Earth." You say things like "T.G.I.F." and "Happy Wednesday" to people you don't know. You really like the elevator, because you think it's a great place to meet people.
I know that you mean well and I know that you're just trying to be nice. Because of this, I do my civil duty, give you polite answers, and participate in these frivolous conversations. All I ask in return is for you to take it down a notch. I'm not asking for a total elimination of small talk - it has its time and place. I guess I'm just asking for a reduction in small talk, ~20% would be a nice start. One of out of every five times you are planning on talking about nothing - just try to do the opposite and say nothing.
