Let's Get Ready To Fear Monger!
McCain's speech last night was so bad, I don't even know where to begin. I realize a President's job is much more than public speaking, but he is a very bad public speaker. He gets ahead (or behind?) of the teleprompter, his tone is two octaves above that of his normal voice, and he shows that creepy "angry dad" smile all too often. Here is a link to his speech if you enjoy suffering. Here's a much better version, chopped up with pundit comments.
While his speeches will continue to produce unintentional comedy, in the end, I care less about his poor public speaking than I do about his thoughts on the Iraq War and foreign policy in general. One thing is clear about this election - John McCain will try to play the same game that George W Bush did four years ago. He will try to convince the American public that a vote for Barack Obama is a vote for the terrorists. He will say that a vote for John McCain will keep America safe. The sad part is that this strategy will work for too many people.
I happen to agree with Senator McCain on some issues (OK, maybe only one or two), but I really can't get past his fear-mongering ways. In fact, I'm personally insulted by them. Serving in the armed services is an honorable way of life, but it does not give him the right to discredit everyone else in the country who hasn't served themselves.
