Memorial Day Barbecues Will Still Go On As Planned

Here's some garbage from CNN about how Memorial Day barbecues are going to cost 6% more than last year and how people will really think twice this weekend when they go to the supermarket. They actually tell you, the reader, to "brace yourself for barbecue shock."

Really? Maybe I'm out-of-touch with the average American - and I'm pretty sure I am - but I'll rant anyway. If a barbecue costs $100 or $106, it is not going to cause people to cancel the party. Keep in mind this is a 6% increase in the cost of an annual party that people enjoy having with friends. Quite frankly, people don't compare the cost of a small increase to an annual party to that of the previous year's party. Even if they did, people like to have parties - so a $3-20 increase per year is not going to change behavior in any material way. If this increase did matter to someone, then that person probably wasn't in the position to host a barbecue in the first place.

This is just another example of the junk that CNN spews out on a daily basis. I don't even know why I read their website anymore. In any case, have fun this weekend - I hope you can all stay away from the dreaded "barbecue shock" CNN has predicted you will experience.
