I'll never claim to be an expert in the economics of farming, but after reading Daniel Imhoff's editorial from the LA Times, the new farm bill sounds awful.  The only thing worse than unnecessary government subsidies are unnecessary government subsidies that are bad for the environment and benefit big business.  I'm sure the Farm Bill contains some worthwhile funding, but there does seem to be a lot of wasteful spending included. 

I guess $80M worth of lobbying can still get a lot done.
